Inspiration comes in many forms, from the sounds of an amazingly composed sonata to that beautiful sunset, but nothing can compare to an awe-inspiring photo of a mother’s love.
Sometimes a writer comes across a story so inspiring that it actually makes this profession worth it, and this is one such story. As one can only imagine from the photos taken by Katie Murray, the emotions captured by this photographer lends context to the words “strength and poise” as this unnamed mother who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer feeds her newborn for the first time.
In a viral Facebook post Murray explains that this mom from the Niceville, Florida area was diagnosed with breast cancer halfway through her pregnancy, had a single mastectomy performed, underwent chemotherapy while carrying her child. The birth was then induced at 36 weeks so she could receive more treatments.
“Baby BOY was born ready to prove to the world his strength he inherited from his strong mommy. He latched on to her remaining breast all on his own and the room erupted in so many emotions. Breastfeeding is such a sacred bond, and this one just makes my heart-break and swell at the same time. I am beyond blessed to have met and gotten to know this woman and her family, and so honored she asked me to be there to document these precious moments.”
Murray’s Facebook post went viral when several celebrities picked up the event and shared it from their own Facebook pages, including social media phenom Keith Kuder.
Our prayers go out to this woman as she continues to battle the disease. We hope for a speedy recovery, but want her to know that she has become an inspiration to many and a symbol of the “bonds” shared between mother and child.
