Multiple people were shot at community college in central Oregon and the shooter was detained, a Douglas County fire official said.
At least one female was shot in the chest at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, another Douglas County official told MSNBC.
Umpqua is a two-year school with roughly 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students. It was established in 1964.
At least 15 people are dead after a shooting at a community college in Oregon Thursday morning, officials said.
The shooter was reported as “down,” with no further details immediately available, said Douglass County commissioner Chris Boice.
Boice initially said at least 21 people had been shot on the Roseburg campus. Oregon State Police later said at least 15 people had died.
My heart goes out to all those families that have been effected by this unfortunate event. It seems that no matter how much “control” we attempt to take over firearms, evil men will always find a way to exact their ill-will over innocent lives. I encourage every one to think about what actually occurred at this facility, and not simply react to the loss of lives.
A person with no concern for the well being of others, intentionally took the lives of others without thought to their life, liberty or pursuit of happiness. This person infringed upon their God given rights. This person is a criminal, with no intent of following any laws that could be set forth in an attempt to prevent these heinous acts.
The only thing that can prevent evil from perpetrating these acts upon innocent lives, is a force equal to or greater than that being used. I encourage everyone to think about “gun free” zones, and what those areas create. Law abiding citizens, allowed to legally carry a firearm, can and have prevented many of these types of incidences.
We all need to be concerned with how we prevent criminals from creating this type of unwanted and unwarranted carnage. Being able to defend ourselves is paramount to keeping the wolves at bay.
