Only in Texas would you see a car dealership offering their customers a “free gun” with every qualified purchase, and that is exactly what Benny Boyd is doing in the Andrews, Texas area.
Every (you have to pass a background check of course) person who purchases a new car throughout the month of May can get either an AR-15, a hunting rifle or a handgun. And for those who don’t (can’t imagine many Texans turning down a free gun), will receive a $500 gift card to Gebo’s Farm and Ranch Supplies.
Of course, like I stated above, you do have to pass all applicable state regulations regarding gun ownership and purchase, just like Benny Boyd General Manager Strate Colbarth says;
“We’re obviously not going to just hand you the gun when you purchase the car,” said Colbath. “They have to go to the background checks, because sometimes bad people buy cars.” He also added;
“Just a lot of things going on right now around West Texas and a lot of things going on around the U.S.,” said Colbath. “We thought this promotion would pretty much set us apart and celebrate our Second Amendment right.”
Sure this sounds like a “Good Ol Texas Boy” thing to do, but why not, Texas? Texans are some of the most patriotic, gun-lovin’, flag-wavin’ people in the world, but Colbarth thinks this kind of promotion could work in other states, and I agree.
“It should work in other states, but I think it works better here in West Texas,” said Colbath.
Even Gebo’s Manager David Corley was all for this promotion from the very beginning.
“I thought it was a great idea, because we’re always promoting our gun sales, and Second Amendment rights, and that’s what he was shooting for,” said Corley, but added. “It’s important for the customer to know that they have to pay the taxes on the gun,” said Corley. “The $500 gift card will cover the cost of any of the guns, but they are responsible for taxes on that.”
Colbarth did add, that if this promotion goes well during the month of May, they will continue it well into June as well.
So in my humblest of opinions, if you are looking to purchase a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram “tough” truck, then it’s not gonna hurt to give them a call, run on down or drive (if that’s your thing) and see what they have to offer. I mean really, who wouldn’t want a free gun?
